Slapy lies in the Praha-západ District, about 27 km south of Prague and 3 km from the Vltava. In 2025, the municipality had approximately 965 residents. Slapy lies beside the Slapy Reservoir on the Vltava, which was ceremonially opened in 1954 and extends for 43 km.

The first written mention of Slapy, recorded as Zlapich at the time, dates from 1292 and appears in the founding charter of Zbraslav Monastery. The Baroque Church of St Peter and St Paul was altered to a design by J. B. Santini-Aichel, and a cemetery adjoins it to the north. At the southern edge of the village stands a manor house whose neo-Baroque main building was completed in 1930; it is now privately owned.
